A person who can be hired by individuals or by groups, for undertaking
investigatory law services is called a private detective or investigator. Private

cheating spouse or enquiry for their business work & so on. A private
detective must have sound health that means totally fit body, power to take

In modern world, private investigator demands increasing day by day.
“Le Bureau Des Renseignements Universels Pour le Commerce et I’lndustrie”
(The Office of Universal Information for Commerce and Industry) was the first
known detective agency founded by a criminal & privateer named Eugene
Francois Vidocq, a French soldier in 1833. Official law enforcement agencies
tried many times to shut it down. For unlawful imprisonment and taking money on
false pretences, police arrested him in 1842 after he had solved an
embezzlement case. Vidocq later noticed that it had been a set up. He sentenced
for five years with 3000 franks. Vidocq credited for introducing record
keeping, criminology and ballistics to criminal investigation by private
detective and investigator. In the United Kingdom, Charles Frederick Field
set up an investigation firm after his retirement from metropolitan police in
1852.Field became a friend of Charles dickens & latter wrote articles about
him. Ignatius Paul Pollaky, a Hungarian, one of his employees left him and set
up a rival agency in 1862. In U.S. A., Allan Pinkerton established the first
private detective agency named “Pinkerton National Detective Agency “in 1850.
Pinkerton became famous when he destroyed a plan to assassinate then
president-elect Abraham Lincoln. Pinkerton’s agents services which ranged from
undercover investigations to plant protection & armed security.
Private
detectives and investigators use many means to determine the cause and
facts in different types of matters. Due to investigation success, they may use
various types of surveillance or searches. For verifications of facts, they
make phone calls or visit a subject’s workplace. They may take interview
people, may check background of people’s for gathering information as much as
possible for investigation success. PIs often work irregular hours because they
need to conduct surveillance and contact people who are not available in normal
working hours. Job can be stressful and dangerous when work involves
confrontation. Detectives and investigators who carry handguns must be licensed
by the appropriate authority. No formal education requirements for most private
detective and investigator jobs. Most of the private investigators have
previous experience in other occupations. Almost 80% investigators enter the
field after serving in military, government intelligence, or law enforcement
jobs. Others enter into this field from crime reporting, insurance, finance,
and accounting & so on. PIs do also some related jobs. They often collect
information and protect the property and other assets of companies. They may
work as security guards, insurance claims examiners, and inspectors, bill
collectors & law enforcement officers. There is stiff competition expected
as the profession attract many qualified people, including relatively young
retires from military & law enforcement.
